About the property

Back in Time

Built in 1834, the current Estate Bungalow was the pioneering Scottish tea planter's main bungalow set to take advantage of the best views from the area. The Estate has a rich history, originally initiated by Sir G.H.D. Elphinstone & J. Paterson Snr, who were notable pioneers of this era.

The ownership of the Estate, bungalow and plantation, was transferred to Sri Lankan ownership after the country’s independence in 1948 and remains a family ownership today, albeit before being partially broken up during land reform in the 1970’s.

A significant restoration and renovation was done in late 2013 to bring this bungalow into one of the most charming plantation bungalows in the country, maintaining its colonial feel and heritage, with added modern day convenience and style. A true testimony to its 130 anniversary and a salutation to its pioneers.
